Financial Education Month - 2020

October has been Financial Education Month since 2018, the year in which the Committee for the Planning and Coordination of Financial, Pension and Insurance Education Initiatives, established in the summer of 2017, became fully operational across the country.

The theme of the 2020 edition, held almost entirely online, was 'Financial decisions in the time of Covid-19'.

Highly topical subjects formed the common thread of the initiatives: the impact of Covid-19 on personal finances, solutions offered by digital finance, choices for restarting, and the importance of planning for the future. The health emergency unequivocally revealed the economic and financial vulnerability of certain population groups, such as the elderly, young people, and women, highlighting how crucial it is - in order to ensure stability in the future - to master insurance, pension, and resource planning issues over the medium and long term.

The Bank of Italy actively participated with its own initiatives for young people and adults, also carried out with the contribution of its branches across the country, and contributed to numerous other events organised by the Committee or by other bodies active in the field that collaborate regularly with the Committee.

The calendar of all Financial Education Month initiatives, not only those organised by Banca d'Italia, along with details on how to participate in each event, is available on the Committee's website.
