Getting started with digital banking

Banca d'Italia has launched a financial education initiative aimed at those with limited experience in using digital tools. The programme helps people learn how to use online banking services in a simple, safe, and confident way. It has been developed in partnership with adult learning centres and local institutions.

The initiative is particularly aimed at individuals who may find the internet difficult to navigate - such as older adults - who risk being excluded as banking and financial services become increasingly digital.

What's included in the programme?

The course is delivered in person by Banca d'Italia experts at Universities of the Third Age and other local associations. It takes a practical, hands-on approach and features:

  • a current account simulator: a tool that replicates the main features of an online banking platform, allowing users to practise in a safe environment by simulating real-life financial decisions without using real money. Users can check their balance and transaction history, make bank transfers, pay bills and pagoPA payment notices, and view banking documents;
  • interactive online security quizzes: designed to help participants spot and avoid online scams, and adopt safe habits when using digital banking services.
