Guide for users with a screen reader

The aim of the game is to identify a series of words in a grid. This word search grid consists of 11 lines and 11 columns. Each cell of the grid contains a letter.

To start playing hit TAB. To quit hit TAB or Shift + TAB. Once inside the grid use the key combinations Alt + Shift + F2, Alt + Shift + F3, and Alt + Shift + F4 for specific information on game status. In particular, Alt + Shift + F4: for help, Alt + Shift + F2 for status info, Alt + Shift + F3 to read the list of missing words.

Use the arrow keys to move around inside the grid. Shift + Up Arrow to move diagonally. Ctrl + Shift + Up Arrow to move to one of the four corners of the puzzle. Each time you change your current position, the system reads the letter of the cell and its position (line and column). The lines and columns are numbered starting at 1. This means that the first cell is in position 1, 1, and the last is in 11, 11.

The words can be spelt out horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in a total of 8 directions (i.e. they can be written from left to right and vice versa)

In the game there are two play modes: cursor and selection. The game starts in cursor mode. Stay here to explore the grid without selecting any word. Use the select mode when you want to highlight a word found (in this case the cursor stays anchored on the first letter and then moves to the last letter when the word has been completed).

In cursor mode you can also move by indicating a specific letter. The letters accepted correspond to those of the alphabet: from A to Z. Letters with accents are not valid. The cursor will move automatically to the next cell whose letter corresponds to the one indicated and the new position will be read out. Hit Shift + letter to go back.

To select a word, hit the Space bar when the cursor is on the cell corresponding to the first letter of the word. Use the Arrow keys to move towards the last letter (but watch out: if the direction changes, the selection will start again at the first letter). When all the letters have been selected, the word found is registered and the system automatically exits selection mode. To leave the selection mode at any time hit ESC.
