Global Money week 2021

Since 2015, Banca d'Italia has actively participated in Global Money Week – a global initiative that promotes financial education for children and young people, starting from early years. Since its launch in 2012, the initiative has reached over 40 million young people in 175 countries. Its aim is to raise awareness among youth about the importance of acquiring the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to make financial decisions that are consistent with their needs and resources.

As of 2020, Global Money Week is coordinated internationally by the OECD. In 2021, national coordination in Italy was ensured by the Committee on the Planning and Coordination of Financial Education Activities, with the support of the Italian G20 Presidency.

Each year, Banca d'Italia contributes to the campaign through educational games and interactive events designed to encourage students to reflect on the importance of managing money in an informed and thoughtful way.

The 2021 edition of Global Money Week focused on youth financial well-being and resilience, under the theme 'Take care of yourself, take care of your money!'. This powerful message echoes the five financial tips published by the Committee.

For this edition, Banca d'Italia developed the online educational game 'Take care of your money!', targeted at school students. Through a mix of quiz questions and bite-sized learning content, participants explored the world of payment instruments and learned how to use them safely and responsibly.
