Global Money week 2024
Since 2015, Banca d'Italia has taken part in Global Money Week (GMW), an international initiative dedicated to young people, starting from early childhood. Since its launch in 2012, GMW has reached over 53 million children and young people in 176 countries worldwide. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among young people about the importance of developing the knowledge and skills they need to make informed and responsible financial decisions.
Since 2020, the GMW has been promoted by the OECD at an international level, and since 2021, the Committee on the Planning and Coordination of Financial Education Activities has been responsible for organising GMW activities in Italy.
The theme of the 2024 edition was 'Protect Your Money, Secure Your Future'. The message highlighted the importance of adopting a responsible and informed approach to personal finance, with an awareness of potential risks in the financial sector. For young people in particular, it is essential to recognise the dangers linked to scams and online fraud, as well as the broader risks of relying on unverified or misleading information and advice found on the internet.
As part of this edition, Banca d'Italia, through its network of local branches, organised 160 events – mostly educational workshops – engaging around 8,000 students from across the country.
