Banca d'Italia and RAI: Together for Financial Education
This November, in the context of the Financial Education Month, Banca d'Italia and RAI are hosting an event focused on the role of television in promoting financial literacy. The event, titled 'Banca d'Italia and RAI for Financial Education', will take place on 10 November at Banca d'Italia's Rome Branch.
The event will bring together experts in institutional communication and public broadcasting to discuss how TV and radio can help spread financial awareness.
Why bring financial education to TV and radio?
We live in an increasingly digital and complex financial world. New opportunities - such as instant payments, online investments, and purchases made using our smartphone - come with new risks. To face these wisely, we need clear, reliable information that helps us safely seize the new opportunities and improve our financial wellbeing.
Banca d'Italia has long been committed to educational initiatives for both young people and adults. However, some groups-such as older adults or those in vulnerable situations-are harder to reach through courses or online resources. That's why television and radio are so valuable: they can reach a wide and diverse audience, including those who don't usually take part in formal learning programmes.
Topics that matter to everyday life
In TV and radio programmes-from news reports to talk shows, from entertainment segments to current affairs-Banca d'Italia experts have tackled practical, everyday topics in a clear and accessible way. These include: how to protect your savings, how to use electronic payments safely, how to avoid scams, how to choose a mortgage wisely, and how to avoid excessive debt.
The results: financial education on TV works
A study carried out in 2024 by Banca d'Italia and RAI confirmed the effectiveness of the initiative. A survey of 1,000 people showed improved financial knowledge, especially among older adults, women, those with lower levels of education, and people who rely mainly on TV and radio for information.
Looking ahead
The collaboration between Banca d'Italia and RAI will continue into 2026, with new content and formats designed to make financial education even more inclusive and far-reaching.
