CREDIT INSTITUTIONS

Banks and other credit institutions are businesses that help channel money from those who have a financial surplus (savers) to those who temporarily need funds (such as businesses or individuals seeking loans).

Banks, in particular, can collect money from the public through deposits and then lend it to those who need it.

There are also other intermediaries that specialize in providing credit - such as leasing, factoring, or consumer credit companies - but they are not allowed to collect savings from the public. These entities are listed in an official register maintained by Banca d'Italia.

In recent years, new and more innovative financial services have emerged. These are offered by professional, authorized entities that may provide payment services, investment services, or issue and manage electronic money.
