New rules for credit transfers come into effect to help protect against fraud
Starting from 9 October 2025, a new rule will come into force to make life harder for fraudsters and help prevent mistakes. When we make a credit transfer or an instant credit transfer, banks and Poste Italiane will be required to check that the recipient's name matches the IBAN. If the details don't match, the bank will immediately notify us before processing the payment. This measure is designed to help prevent scams where we are tricked into entering an IBAN that doesn't belong to the intended recipient.
On the same date, another requirement will also take effect: banks must offer customers the option to send instant transfers. The obligation to allow the receipt of instant payments was already introduced on 9 January this year.
